Through Friday morning, a series of fronts will bring multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall across the Alaska Panhandle. The second round of heavy rain is expected to bring an additional 0.5 to 1.5 inches tonight into Friday morning, with the higher end QPF amounts expected for Baranof and Admiralty Islands. More localized lower or higher amounts are possible due to terrain effects. Even higher rain amounts are possible for parts of the central panhandle associated with the front tonight as its low develops inland and moves northward, though there is still a lack of confidence on the exact location of these higher rates. As of now, the highest amounts are expected to move into southern Baranof Island up into Stephens Passage, though some elevated rainfall amounts may still reach Sitka and other parts of the central and northern panhandle. While these forecasted rain amounts are expected to bring rises to small creeks and rivers in the area, there is no flooding anticipated at this time. Stay tuned to weather.gov/juneau as we continue to monitor the situation and update our forecast.

Montana Creek and Jordan Creek are expected to see minor flooding into Friday morning after these rounds of heavy rainfall. Other creeks and rivers in the Juneau area will still see rises through the night into Friday morning, however no flooding is anticipated for other streams at this time. For more information on the minor flooding expected for Montana Creek and Jordan Creek, please see the new Flood Advisory product at weather.gov/juneau and stay tuned to updates as we continue to monitor the situation.
