Storm intensity was 130 mph. This general forecast track will take Champi just south of Guam as a Category 4 typhoon as it intensifies further the next few days. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... Typhoon Champi (29W) has been undergoing rapid intensification today. As a result it is now a dangerous category 4 typhoon. Dangerous typhoon conditions will soon occur. Everyone should be quickly moving to safety within their home or shelter. Once inside, ensure all windows and doors are secured before dangerous winds arrive. Move to an interior room on the lowest floor. Do not go outside into the eye of typhoons. Within the eye, conditions can become temporarily calm, which can be misleading. Once the eye passes, the winds will change direction and quickly increase again to dangerous speeds. Be aware that the loss of commercial power can happen quickly. Keep emergency gear handy.

* WHAT...Typhoon conditions, including winds of 64 knots or more are expected. * WHERE...Guam and Rota Coastal Waters. * WHEN...Damaging winds are occurring in eastern waters, and will begin later tonight in western waters. Onset of destructive winds after midnight with typhoon force winds early Sunday morning. Damaging winds will continue into at least Sunday night, especially if Champi slows down. * IMPACTS...Destructive to typhoon force winds will produce dangerous to deadly seas that could damage, capsize or sink vessels, along with drastically reducing visibilities in heavy rain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Typhoon Champi (29W) continues to move quickly toward the Marianas. The exact path of 29W remains subject to change. However, guidance supports a passage through Guam coastal waters, a little south of Guam, with damaging winds moving in late tonight and lasting into at least Sunday night. Champi is expected to strengthen further as it approaches, then move through the region as a category 4 super typhoon Sunday morning. Seas are quickly rising, with significant sea heights reaching as high as 35 feet near the eye wall of Champi. Dangerous sea conditions may continue into Monday.
Prepare for the passage of a category 4 typhoon Sunday morning. Secure all vessels. Conditions are expected to be catastrophic for small craft, and extremely dangerous for any vessels of larger size. As Typhoon Champi approaches, stay in safe harbor.

* WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Warning, significant coastal flooding expected. For the High Surf Warning, dangerously large breaking waves up to 35 feet for Guam, 20 to 25 feet for Rota, and 15 to 20 feet for Tinian and Saipan. * WHERE...Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan. * WHEN...From 5 PM this afternoon to 4 AM ChST Monday. * IMPACTS...Numerous roads may be closed. Low-lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated. Shoreline erosion will occur. Breaking waves can sweep people off their feet, and into dangerous seas. Life- threatening swimming conditions and significant beach erosion can be expected. Coastal inundation of 5 to 7 feet for Guam, 2 to 4 feet for Rota and 1 to 3 feet for Tinian and Saipan is possible along with coastal flooding and beach erosion. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Surf is expected to rise rapidly to dangerous levels tonight. Coastal impacts to the western coasts of Guam and Rota are highly dependent on the final track of Champi; passage south of Guam would be reduced impacts whereas passage over Guam would result in larger coastal inundation.
Everyone should remain out of the water due to life-threatening surf conditions. Stay well away from the coast.
